It’s so easy to like the Dutch these days (see below). When they founded the village of Breuckelen in 1646 they had no idea how quickly the British would come to correct their spelling. “Two O’s in a row always look smashingly cute,” some British lord said gayly.
Today Brooklyn is the Home to Everyone From Everywhere. From Greenpoint to Coney Island, Williamsburg to Canarsie, what a dirty little playground! Just remember to play with caution kids, there’s 362 some years of war, slavery, murder, and heart disease behind every condo.
But I wouldn’t trade it for any other place in the US.
